From Baby Oil to Beauty Serums: How is this a Nail Story? | Be Proactive in Preventing Nail Allergies
From Baby Oil to Beauty Serums: How is this a Nail Story? I'm 52. Gasp. I know, right? Honestly, I don't feel 52. Mentally, I'm still that 22-year-old kid who got my nail license in Maine back in 1994 and thought they were invincible. Back then, my beauty routine was nonexistent. Fast forward to my fifties, and I'm slathering on serums, creams, and sunblock, avoiding the sun like a vampire.
Remember those carefree days of sunbathing? My friends were practically marinating in baby oil, convinced they were achieving the perfect golden glow. Me? I preferred the shade. Not because I was some kind of skincare guru, but because I just didn't like baking in the sun. Little did I know that my aversion to tanning would be doing my 52-year-old self a huge favor! Now, those same friends are battling sunspots and wrinkles, while I'm (mostly) unscathed. It's funny how life works, isn't it? Back then, I had no idea I was practicing preventative skincare.
And that's what brings me to today's topic: preventing problems before they start. Just like we protect our skin from the sun's harmful rays, we need to protect our clients' nails from potential allergens.
Back in the day (the early 90s, mind you), we didn't worry about allergies. We were too busy perfecting French manicures and airbrushing flowers on acrylic tips. But then, bam, a client came in with red, itchy cuticles. It was a wake-up call. I was clueless about allergies, and so were most nail techs. When it happened, we scrambled to find a solution, switching to resin and dipping into acrylic powders (the birth of Dipping).
That's when I met Jim McConnell and Light Elegance in his second year in business. It was a match made in nail heaven. His advanced UV lamp immediately saved the day for my allergy-prone client and my use of odor-free UV acrylic. Once my product cured properly, my clients luckily went back to normal.
Today, we're lucky to have Light Elegance. They're not just about pretty nails; they're about healthy nails. By using their products and following their education, you can help prevent allergies before they even start.
So, what's the moral of the story? Please don't wait until you have a problem to fix it. Be proactive. Protect your clients' (and your) health and your reputation. And hey, while you're at it, protect your own skin. Trust me, your future self will thank you.
Remember, aging is inevitable, but with the correct information, we can try and fight it. Let's keep our nails healthy, our clients happy and our skin wrinkle free!
With love, Elaine Watson
